Donald Trump refused to pardon Ross Ulbricht
US President Donald Trump has pardoned or commuted punishment for 143 people. The founder of the Silk Road marketplace, Ross Ulbricht, was not on the list. In December, sources in The Daily Beast reported that documents in the Ulbricht case were pending with a White House adviser, and Trump was notified of requests from supporters of the Silk Road founder. Two of them claim that the president unofficially expressed sympathy for Ulbricht. Ulbricht’s mother then said: “We pray and keep the hope that he will have mercy on Ross, as he pardoned others, shorten his term to the time he has already served and give my son a second chance in life.” In addition, Trump did not pardon Edward Snowden and Julian Assange. At the same time, Ken Courson, a former member of the Ripple board of directors and co-founder of the Modern Consensus crypto portal, was on the list of pardoned.
Firo cryptocurrency network attacked by 51%
The developers of the Firo cryptocurrency, formerly known as Zcoin, announced a 51% attack on their network: “We recommend not sending transactions during this time until the network returns to normal. We will post updated information when we have it. We would like to emphasize that this is not a bug in the code, but the nature of the Proof-of-Work consensus mechanism. ” The developers report that they are currently working with pools and exchanges. From the major platforms, Firo is available for trading on Binance. They also argue that the attack happened just weeks before the planned implementation of a checkpoint-based mechanism to prevent such situations from occurring.
Bitfinex requested a month to transfer documents to the prosecutor’s office
Cryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex has requested additional time for the transfer of documents on mutual transactions with the issuer of stablecoin Tether to the New York State Attorney General (NYAG), lawyer Stuart Hogner, representing the companies’ interests, said. Earlier, the prosecutor’s office asked to extend the deadline for the execution of the decision for Bitfinex and Tether until January 15. On January 19, Hogner notified the New York Supreme Court that the defendants had collected a significant amount of information, but they needed a month to complete the process. In April 2019, NYAG accused Bitfinex of trying to hide the loss of $ 850 million from Tether’s reserves. The exchange did not agree with the claims.
