Johnson does not rule out the possibility of deporting Ukrainian refugees to Rwanda

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson did not rule out that Ukrainian refugees in case of illegal entry into the UK could be deported to Rwanda, the Guardian newspaper reports.

The UK and Rwanda signed a migration agreement on April 13, under which people who are recognized by the British government as illegal migrants or asylum seekers will be deported to Rwanda for paperwork, asylum and relocation.

On Thursday, Johnson visited the Rwandan capital of Kigali. During the visit, he was asked whether Ukrainians who arrived in Britain illegally, for example by boat across the English Channel, would be deported to Rwanda.

“We are issuing 130,000 visas to Ukrainians and they have at least two very good entry routes. But if you come here illegally … I’m afraid the answer is yes, theoretically it can happen, ”said Johnson, adding that he considers this scenario very unlikely.

The first expulsion of migrants from Britain to Rwanda was to take place on the evening of 14 June. However, the flight was canceled at the last moment due to a decision by the ECtHR, with which Britain was extremely dissatisfied.
