MOSCOW, June 13 – PRIME. The American broker Interactive Brokers (IBKR) has introduced restrictions for Russian and Belarusian clients due to EU sanctions, the company reports.
US stocks fell 2% on recession fears
The European Union previously introduced a number of anti-Russian sanctions prohibiting the listing of services on the EU platforms for securities issued by state-owned companies from the Russian Federation. In addition, the provision of services to individuals and legal entities from Russia with securities issued after April 12 fell under the ban.
“In order to comply with these sanctions, IBKR customers who are citizens of Russia and Belarus or reside in these countries, as well as Russian and Belarusian legal entities, will now not be able to open new positions (long or short) in EU securities,” IBKR writes in a statement. .
It is clarified that the restrictions come into force at the end of the working day on Monday.
In May, Roskomnadzor, at the request of the Prosecutor General’s Office, restricted access to the British website Interactive Brokers. At the same time, access to the American website of the broker was not limited. At the beginning of June 2021, the Bank of Russia published on its website a list of companies with signs of illegal activity, it included more than 1.8 thousand organizations and projects on the Internet. The list includes those in whose activities the Central Bank revealed signs of a financial pyramid, an illegal creditor or an illegal professional participant in the securities market. In particular, he attributed the Interactive Brokers Group to the latter.
Interactive Brokers is an American multinational brokerage firm that operates the largest electronic trading platform in the United States by number of trades with daily average earnings. Previously, IBKR was popular with Russian private investors, and Russian brokers also worked with it. However, after a fine from the American regulator, already in 2020, the company began to limit work with Russia and some other countries.
