From June 2020 to November 2020, the Balancer Ecosystem Fund distributed $ 95,333 BAL in grants to groups and individuals who make a meaningful contribution to the project community. And that was just the beginning!
The first batch of grants already distributed included 15 different recipients, including those who built key integrations with the Balancer protocol, provided much needed support to our growing global community, developed tools to improve the usability and visibility of the protocol, and innovated the protocol infrastructure.
A financial tool designed to be used as a building block for permissionless DeFi, Balancer thrives when community members use the protocol to create products and services that the world deems useful.
In this review, we highlight 4 projects that received a grant in package # 1:
Aave
By integrating the Balancer protocol into the backbone of its new tokenomics, Aave will allow BPTs to be hosted from the 80/20 AAVE / ETH pool, showcasing Joel Monegro’s idea of liquidity proof. This pool is expected to contain over $ 100 million. Aave also integrates various other BPTs and $ BAL as money markets.
Pools.Vision

Pools.Vision is a tool created by Balancer community member Davis Ramsey that provides visualization and performance analytics of Balancer’s liquidity pools, as well as statistics on a common protocol. It serves as a valuable tool for community members; especially liquidity providers.
Zapper.Fi

Zapper has integrated its beautiful front-end interface with Balancer’s robust back-end infrastructure to provide a seamless user experience. From the Zapper user interface, users can directly execute trades through the Balancer exchange and provide / withdraw liquidity to and from pools.
PieDAO

The PieDAO team is a pioneer in the Balancer community, the first to ever launch a smart protocol pool. PieDAO uses Balancer smart pools as the underlying infrastructure to operate its crypto index fund products, which allows passive investment in diversified tokenized assets.
Stay tuned for new opportunities to apply for grants and contribute to the ecosystem of this protocol!
Please note that grants awarded prior to the launch of $ BAL (06/20/20) took into account an initial price of $ 0.60 per $ BAL, so grant amounts vary widely. The grants were awarded prior to community approval as Balancer Labs considered other viable options to replace them in the event that an application was not community approved for any reason.
Some of the grants were discussed and agreed upon before the related work began, and some were awarded retrospectively in recognition of contributors who volunteered to add significant value to the Balancer ecosystem and community.
