Over 350 apartments in 26 apartment buildings were damaged in Belgorod as a result of shelling from Ukraine, the mayor of the city said Anton Ivanov.
“During the day, citizens report damage to property, the numbers change. At 16.00 there is information about 26 apartment buildings on Popov, N. Chumichov, Mayakovsky, Sadovaya and Michurin streets. There are 353 apartments in total – mostly we are talking about damage to windows,” Ivanov said.
He added that, together with the ministries of construction and housing and communal services, repair work is planned, now the territory is being cleaned.
According to the mayor’s office, eight cars were damaged. On Sunday, until the end of the day, it is planned to close the damaged windows in apartment buildings with a film.
Deputy Governor of the Belgorod Region Konstantin Polezhaev together with the minister of housing and communal services Alexey Botviniev conducted house-to-house and door-to-door rounds.
“During the survey, damage was revealed in 26 apartment buildings, mainly window blocks and double-glazed windows were destroyed. Insignificant damage was caused to the elements of the facade, balcony blocks. Four contractors measured building elements. At the moment, damaged and broken window blocks are being dismantled. The work on closing the knocked-out window openings with construction film has almost been completed,” Polezhaev said.
He clarified that contractors will start installing new windows from Monday. One of the dormitories that suffered last night will be included in this year’s major renovation program ahead of schedule. The deputy governor added that the energy systems and water supply were not damaged. Of the total number of damaged houses, 19 were supplied with gas, Gazprom Gas Distribution Belgorod JSC did not reveal any gas leaks or damage to gas supply systems.
According to the Russian Defense Ministry, on the night of July 3, Ukrainian troops attacked Belgorod with three Tochka-U missiles with cluster warheads. Russian air defense systems destroyed all three missiles in the air, but as a result of the defeat of Ukrainian missiles, fragments of one of them fell on a residential building. As Vyacheslav Gladkov, Governor of the Belgorod Region, reported, 65 residential buildings, including apartment buildings, were damaged during the shelling. According to him, as a result, four people died, four more, including a child, were injured. At the same time, according to the RF IC, three people died, two went missing, including one child.
